Zhejiang tent clusters: Jinhua, Ningbo and Linhai

Zhejiang is the province most tent buyers end up working with, but it is not one market. Jinhua and Wuyi, Ningbo and Linhai each have their own product mix, factory profile and strengths. This note sets out what each cluster makes, the published figures behind them and how the desk uses them when shortlisting partner factories.

Zhejiang tent clusters: Jinhua, Ningbo and Linhai - Sourcing and OEM

Why clusters matter to a buyer

A cluster is more than a group of factories in one place. It is a local supply chain: fabric converters and coating lines, pole and frame suppliers, zip and webbing traders, print shops, carton makers and freight forwarders who know the product. Working inside a cluster shortens sample rounds, makes fabric and trims easier to replace and gives a buyer more than one capable partner factory for the same style. The point is not to pick a city, but to match the product to the cluster whose supply chain is built for it.

At national level, the figures explain the scale. China exported about 1.9 billion US dollars of synthetic-fibre tents under HS 6306.22 in 2024 according to its own customs filings (UN Comtrade and WITS), and OEC puts China at roughly 60 percent of world exports in the category in 2024. Zhejiang accounts for a large part of that, though no published figure for the province's share of national tent exports is used here.

The three Zhejiang clusters at a glance

Zhejiang tent clusters, published signals
ClusterMain product mixPublished figure (source, year)Typical lines
Jinhua, including WuyiCamping tents and camping goods880 million yuan of tent and camping goods exports in January to July 2024, 24.1% of Zhejiang, first in the province (Jinhua Customs, 2024)Dome, cabin, instant, beach
NingboCamping tents and wider outdoor goods796 million yuan of tent exports in the first eight months of 2026, up 6.3% (CCTV Finance, 2026, medium confidence)Dome, instant, air, backpacking
Linhai, TaizhouCanopies, gazebos, outdoor leisure productsMore than 1,000 firms and an output value above 30 billion yuan (Zhejiang Online, 2025)Pop-up canopies, printed canopies, gazebos

The figures come from different sources, cover different periods and measure different things, so they should not be added together or ranked against each other. Jinhua's figure covers tents and camping goods; Ningbo's covers tents; Linhai's covers the whole outdoor leisure products industry, which includes furniture and other items beyond canopies.

Jinhua and Wuyi

Jinhua, and Wuyi county within it, is the most visible camping tent cluster in Zhejiang by published export figures. In January to July 2024, Jinhua exported 880 million yuan of tents and camping goods, 24.1 percent of the provincial total and the largest share in Zhejiang, according to Jinhua Customs. The Wuyi county leisure goods association reported in 2022 that Wuyi accounts for more than 40 percent of national outdoor goods output and exports; that figure refers to outdoor goods in general, not to tents alone.

For buyers, Jinhua is a natural starting point for volume camping tents: two to eight person domes, cabin tents, instant tents and beach shelters, with partner factories used to private label work, retail packaging and seasonal programmes. See camping tents for the lines.

Ningbo

Ningbo combines a large outdoor goods manufacturing base with one of China's major container ports. Tent exports from Ningbo reached 796 million yuan in the first eight months of 2026, up 6.3 percent year on year, according to CCTV Finance; this is a media figure and is treated as medium confidence. Ningbo partner factories cover camping tents and broader outdoor goods, and port access makes consolidation of mixed orders straightforward. Buyers combining tents with other outdoor products in one shipment often find Ningbo convenient.

Ningbo partner factories also tend to handle air tents and lighter backpacking styles alongside family domes, which suits brands that want a mixed camping range from a small number of suppliers. As everywhere, the capability that matters, such as seam taping, bladder fitting or lightweight nylon sewing, is checked factory by factory against the spec sheet.

Linhai in Taizhou

Linhai is the cluster for shade and leisure structures: pop-up canopies, gazebos and outdoor leisure products. Zhejiang Online reported in 2025 that the Linhai outdoor leisure products cluster includes more than 1,000 firms with an industry output value above 30 billion yuan. For buyers of 10x10 ft commercial canopies with 40 mm hex aluminium frames, printed canopy kits and gazebos, Linhai has the frame extrusion, joint and printing supply chain close at hand. See pop-up canopy tents and custom printed canopies.

What sits outside Zhejiang

Zhejiang does not cover everything. Yangzhou in Jiangsu is reported as an established camping tent producing area, though without reliable published figures. Larger frame structures, PVC party tents and event tents come mainly from Changzhou, Zhuhai and Shanghai. Rooftop and vehicle tents are spread across Shandong, Zhejiang and Guangdong with no single cluster. Polyester and nylon weaving and coating are concentrated in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, which keeps fabric development close to the sewing lines in both provinces. The industry clusters page maps all of them.

How the desk uses the clusters

  1. Start from the line. Camping tents point to Jinhua, Ningbo or Yangzhou; canopies and gazebos to Linhai; party and frame tents to Changzhou, Zhuhai or Shanghai.
  2. Shortlist by capability, not address. Within a cluster, partner factories differ in seam taping equipment, fabric sourcing, printing, testing history and export experience.
  3. Audit against the order. The factory audit checks the capabilities your spec sheet needs.
  4. Keep a second option. Clusters make it practical to qualify a second partner factory for the same style.
  5. Consolidate across clusters. A range of camping tents from Jinhua and canopies from Linhai can ship together, with one inspection plan.

Timing and seasons across the clusters

All three clusters follow the same broad rhythm: heavy shipping in the first half of the year for spring and summer shelves in Europe and North America, an inference drawn from listed manufacturers' quarterly revenue. Canopy and gazebo demand for markets and events runs through spring and summer as well. Typical lead times are similar across the clusters: samples in 7-15 days, standard bulk in 30-45 days and custom work in 45-60 days, all confirmed in writing per order. Planning for peak season matters more than the choice of city.

Questions buyers ask

Q01Which Zhejiang city is best for camping tents?

Jinhua, including Wuyi, has the clearest published export figures for tents and camping goods, and Ningbo is a strong second cluster with port access. The desk shortlists partner factories in either by capability against your spec sheet rather than by city alone.

Q02Where are pop-up canopies and gazebos made in Zhejiang?

Mainly around Linhai in Taizhou, where Zhejiang Online reported in 2025 a cluster of more than 1,000 outdoor leisure products firms. The local supply chain covers aluminium frames, joints, canopy fabric and printing.

Q03Are party tents and event structures made in Zhejiang?

Larger frame structures, PVC party tents and event tents come mainly from Changzhou, Zhuhai and Shanghai. Zhejiang clusters focus on camping tents, canopies and gazebos, so event tent projects are usually shortlisted outside the province.

Q04Can I combine tents from different clusters in one shipment?

Yes. Camping tents from Jinhua or Ningbo and canopies from Linhai can be consolidated into one shipment with a single inspection plan. Loading is calculated per order from the actual carton sizes.

Send the tent types you need, sizes or capacity, fabric and frame preferences, quantity per style and your market. The desk replies in writing with matched factories, a spec sheet, the test reports your market asks for and the reference MOQ.
